  • Qualitrol has broken ground on a 50,000-square-foot expansion of its headquarters and primary manufacturing facility in Fairport, New York.
  • The project is expected to more than double production capacity while improving manufacturing flow and operating efficiency.
  • Construction is expected to continue through 2027 without interrupting existing operations at the facility.
  • Qualitrol expects its Fairport workforce to grow by 30% to 60% after completion, with new positions across manufacturing, engineering, industrialization and operations.

What The Fairport Expansion Will Add

Qualitrol has started construction on a 50,000-square-foot expansion of its headquarters and primary manufacturing facility in Fairport, giving the company additional space to produce equipment used to monitor and protect critical electrical infrastructure. The expansion is expected to more than double the facility's current production capacity. Beyond adding manufacturing space, the project will improve production flow and operating efficiency, giving Qualitrol more flexibility as customer demand increases. Construction is expected to continue through 2027 while the existing facility remains operational. That approach will allow Qualitrol to continue serving customers without shutting down its current production activities during the expansion.

What Is Driving The Need for More Capacity

The expansion comes as demand for electrical infrastructure continues to grow. Increased electrification, data center development, renewable energy integration and grid modernization are creating additional requirements for equipment that monitors and protects critical power assets. Utilities and industrial customers are not only adding new capacity but also replacing aging infrastructure and upgrading existing networks. As power systems become more complex, operators need better visibility into the condition and performance of electrical equipment. Qualitrol provides monitoring, protection and asset management technologies used by utilities, original equipment manufacturers and industrial customers. Its products are designed to help operators monitor critical electrical assets and manage equipment reliability and operating risk.

What The Expansion Means for Qualitrol's Workforce

The project is also expected to increase employment at the Fairport facility. Qualitrol is targeting a 30% to 60% increase in headcount after the expansion is completed. New positions are expected across manufacturing, engineering, industrialization, operations and supporting functions. That means the investment is not simply about adding more production floor space; it will also expand the personnel needed to manage higher output and improve manufacturing processes. Qualitrol President Bala Vinayagam said the company needs additional capacity, capabilities and operational resilience to support customers as they strengthen and modernize the electrical grid.

What The Project Means for Fairport

The investment strengthens Qualitrol's presence in Fairport and adds new manufacturing capacity to the Rochester-area economy. Keeping current operations running during construction will allow the company to maintain production and employment while the new space is being developed. Once complete, the larger facility will provide room for additional workers, equipment and manufacturing activity. Qualitrol expects the completed expansion to provide more than twice its current production capacity, giving the Fairport operation greater flexibility as demand for electrical infrastructure technology grows.

What The Expansion Means for the Power Infrastructure Market

The Fairport project reflects the broader investment taking place across the power sector. Data centers and electrification are increasing electricity demand, while utilities are simultaneously working to replace aging equipment, integrate renewable energy and modernize their networks. Those projects require monitoring and protection systems that can help operators understand the condition of critical electrical assets throughout their operating lives. Expanding its manufacturing base gives Qualitrol more room to respond to that demand while improving the efficiency of its primary production facility. With construction continuing through 2027, the expansion will position the Fairport campus for higher production volumes and continued workforce growth without taking the existing operation offline.
