What Apotheke Brings to Moxy South Beach

New York-born cocktail brand Apotheke Mixology has made its Miami debut, opening a hidden cocktail lounge at Moxy South Beach. The venue officially debuted October 16, introducing a botanical-focused nightlife concept to the hotel and the surrounding Art Deco District. The entrance is deliberately understated. Guests access the lounge through an unmarked door on Washington Avenue rather than entering through the hotel lobby, giving the bar an independent street presence while connecting it to Moxy’s hospitality operation. Apotheke began in New York City’s Chinatown in 2008, followed by locations in Los Angeles in 2018 and Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood in 2022. The South Beach opening marks the brand’s fourth location and first in Florida.

What the Nine Original Cocktails Offer

The South Beach menu centers on nine cocktails developed exclusively for the Miami location by O’Connor. The drinks use herbs, flowers, roots, fruit and other botanicals, with high-proof spirits used to extract flavor from the ingredients. Rather than organizing the menu by liquor, Apotheke groups its drinks by the experience they are intended to evoke. Categories include Health & Beauty, Stimulants, Painkillers, Aphrodisiacs, Euphoric Enhancers and Stress Relievers. The original lineup includes Novia Del Sol, Write It Off, Dry Until Vitae, Dawn Patrol, Bait & Switch, Bilongo, Will-O’-The-Wisp, Ears to You and Collins Cure. Rotating Historic Formulas from the brand’s New York and Los Angeles locations will also supplement the menu.

“Apotheke doesn't just garnish with plants like an afterthought,” O’Connor said. “We build the drink in collaboration with them.”

The concept extends beyond the drinks themselves. Apotheke’s interiors draw on old-world apothecary references and natural materials, while live music and curated DJ sets are intended to create an atmosphere focused on conversation and discovery.

What the Opening Means for Moxy’s Hospitality Strategy

Apotheke joins an expanding collection of dining and nightlife concepts at Moxy South Beach. The hotel’s lineup also includes Serena, a rooftop restaurant and bar serving Latin-inspired cuisine, and Naked Tomato, a modern Israeli restaurant from chef Eyal Shani. For hotel operators and commercial property owners, the addition illustrates how differentiated food-and-beverage tenants can help build a property's identity beyond its rooms. A recognizable hospitality concept with its own following can also create a separate reason for neighborhood residents and visitors to enter the property. Apotheke’s street-facing entrance is notable because it gives the lounge visibility and access independent of the hotel’s main circulation. That arrangement can help a hotel-based venue operate as a standalone nightlife destination while contributing to the broader property’s appeal.

What Guests Should Know

Apotheke South Beach is located at 921 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139. The brand’s website currently lists operating hours from Thursday through Sunday, 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., with entry subject to the host’s discretion. The venue is restricted to guests 21 and older. The opening adds another experience-driven hospitality offering to South Beach, where hotels increasingly compete through restaurants, bars and lifestyle programming as well as accommodations.
