Rendezvous Robotics, a Colorado-based startup developing self-assembling spacecraft, raised $20 million in fresh funding to advance its in-space demonstration mission, planned for no earlier than April 2028. The round was co-led by MaC Venture Capital and Toyota Ventures, with participation from the University of Michigan Endowment, Astera Ventures, Industrious Ventures, Aurelia Foundry, ATX Venture Partners, Mana Ventures, and others. Cofounded by Ariel Ekblaw, the company is developing modular, sensor-equipped hexagonal tiles that use electromagnetic fields to autonomously assemble and reconfigure satellites in space, enabling larger, more capable spacecraft and in-orbit servicing. CEO Joe Landon said the technology could allow operators to replace damaged components, upgrade satellites, and expand their capabilities without launching entirely new spacecraft.
