In response to the growing popularity of pickleball, a developer has proposed a 44-court complex in Ocoee. The facility, planned at 1000 Jacob Nathan Blvd., would include a mix of indoor and outdoor courts, with a focus on hosting large tournaments. The property, owned by Vasant Sports LLC, was purchased for over $2.7 million. Plans include a two-story pro shop and café, and the incorporation of real-time technology to manage court availability.
Pickleball's Growing Presence in Orlando
The proposed Ocoee complex reflects a broader trend of pickleball's expansion in the Orlando area. Initially limited to city-owned courts, private sector investment has surged as the sport's popularity has grown. The Association of Pickleball Professionals reports a significant increase in participation, making pickleball the fastest-growing sport for five consecutive years.
Private Sector Investments in Pickleball Facilities
Other developments in the area include The Pickleball Club's expansion plans, featuring indoor and outdoor courts and bocce ball facilities. Additionally, the Orlando Squeeze, a professional pickleball team owned by the DeVos family, will have a 19,000 square-foot complex in the SoDo neighborhood, complete with courts, a restaurant, and a bar.
Municipal Engagement in Pickleball
Winter Springs is also embracing pickleball's popularity, with plans to open a new complex featuring 14 courts. These developments indicate a growing recognition of pickleball's appeal and the potential economic opportunities associated with the sport.
