The U.S. stock market is about to get a lot less “closed.” NYSE and other U.S. exchanges are moving toward 23-hour-a-day, 5-day-a-week trading, with market infrastructure scheduled to expand beginning December 6, 2026. The NYSE’s core session will still run from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, but the broader ecosystem is opening the door to significantly more overnight trading. That means global investors can react to earnings, economic data, geopolitical developments, and breaking news closer to when they happen, rather than waiting for the next U.S. session. And 23/5 may only be the beginning. The SEC has indicated that 24/7 trading could become possible as market infrastructure continues to evolve. Wall Street is moving closer to an always-on market.
