Samsung Electronics, led by Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee, has signed a $16.5 billion chip manufacturing deal with Tesla to produce next-generation AI6 inference chips, designed for autonomous vehicles, humanoid robots, and data centers. Announced just hours apart by both companies, the agreement marks a strategic win for Samsung’s struggling foundry unit and will run through 2033, with production set to begin in Texas by 2026. The deal, disclosed amid a sharp 56% drop in Samsung's Q2 operating profit, comes as the company pushes to recover lost ground to TSMC and ramp up mass production of 2nm chips. Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed the partnership on X, calling it key to Tesla’s AI future.
