Rivian Automotive Partners With Uber For $1.25 Billion Autonomous Vehicle Initiative
Rivian Automotive, Inc. has partnered with Uber Technologies, Inc. in a major autonomous vehicle initiative, with Uber committing up to $1.25 billion in investments through 2031, contingent on achieving specific autonomous milestones. The partnership will see an initial deployment of 10,000 fully autonomous R2 robotaxis in San Francisco and Miami in 2028, with expansion to 25 cities and an option to purchase up to 40,000 additional vehicles by 2030. RJ Scaringe, Founder and CEO of Rivian, highlighted that the collaboration will accelerate the company’s path to level 4 autonomy, leveraging Rivian’s third-generation autonomy platform and in-house RAP1 chips to enhance safety and data-driven performance.
