Lemma, a San Francisco-based AI agent observability startup, has raised a $2.3 million pre-seed round backed by Matrix, Y Combinator, Liquid 2 Ventures, and investors from OpenAI, xAI, Meta, and DoorDash. Founded in 2025 by Jerry Zhang and Cole Gawin, Lemma monitors more than 1 million AI agent traces daily to detect silent failures, identify root causes, and suggest fixes directly in the codebase. The company is targeting a growing problem in AI: agents that appear to work in testing but quietly fail in production.
