Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Eka Robotics raised $150 million in a Series A round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Fine Structure Ventures, with participation from seed investors Obvious Ventures and E14 Fund. Co-founded by CEO Pulkit Agrawal and Tuomas Haarnoja, the company develops general-purpose robots designed to perform beyond human capabilities while working safely alongside people. Its Vision-Force-Action (VFA) model uses large-scale reinforcement learning in simulation to develop physical intuition, enabling its robots to pick a wide variety of objects at 1,500 operations per hour, roughly 2.5 times the human baseline.
FUN FACT: Co-founders Pulkit Agrawal (MIT CSAIL’s Improbable AI Lab) and Tuomas Haarnoja (Berkeley, then Google DeepMind) spent the last decade attacking the same question from complementary directions — how machines learn physical behavior through experience and have it survive contact with reality. Their robots pick objects outside the training distribution at 1,500 operations per hour — ~2.5x the human baseline of ~600 — prompting WIRED to write that Eka feels like “a ChatGPT moment for the physical world.”
