Creandum has successfully closed its Fund VIII, securing €668M, making it the firm’s largest fund ever. The fundraising was led by Creandum and took place in Stockholm, representing a substantial increase from its previous funds.

Half of the newly raised funds will be directed towards new investments, while the remainder will support follow-on rounds for around 30 early-stage startups. This strategy aligns with Creandum's goal to expand its presence in the US and continue building relationships with founders.

Creandum focuses on investing in early-stage startups, primarily across pre-seed to Series A stages. The firm has seen impressive traction, noting that about half of the capital invested in European tech last year originated from the US. There is a noted trend of US venture firms actively competing for opportunities within Europe, which highlights the significance of Creandum’s expansion efforts.

Staffan Helgesson, the founder, has played a pivotal role in the growth of Creandum since its inception in 2003. Starting with two Swedish pension funds as anchor investors and a €40M fund, he has successfully guided the firm to its current position in the venture capital landscape.

Helgesson stated, “After nearly 25 years in venture, one belief has only grown stronger: it’s the founders you back early that matter most. With Fund VIII, we remain focused on one simple thing — finding the boldest and most ambitious early-stage founders in Europe — and increasingly in the US — and being the first to back them.”

The company’s diverse portfolio now encompasses over 200 startups, with a mix of advisory teams situated across key locations including Stockholm, London, Berlin, and San Francisco. As Creandum continues to navigate the evolving venture capital market, its focus on identifying promising early-stage companies remains unwavering.
